Joe Wilson has performed, arranged and composed for the stage in all styles and genres you've heard ever saxophones in: Jazz, Funk, Fusion, Pop, Tejano, Cumbia, Salsa, Afrobeat, Hip Hop, Blues, Merengue, Gospel, Avant-Garde, Reggae, Western Swing, World, Gypsy Jazz, Ambient, Post-rock, Art rock, Free jazz, avante garde, and various Experimental / Fusion / "hard to categorize" styles. In addition to his horns, Joe has an FX pedal-board available for taking the sound to other dimensions.
He has toured many times across the United States, Europe, and Brazil, with various bands, and also given solo performances in jazz and modern ambient music at festivals in Berlin and New York. Currently based in Houston, TX, Joe still returns regularly for gigs in New York City where he lived for over a decade.
Highlights of Joe's performance career have included building the bands Karikatura, Izzy and the Catastrophics, and La Pachamambo all the way up from local bars to world-traveling festival acts; performing with legends such as Fred Thomas (of James Brown fame), Archie Bell, and George E. Lewis; making musical connections with players from many different continents even with language barriers; and immersing himself with legends of the Houston music scene, including Nick Gaitan, David Dove, The Free Radicals, and Woody Witt.
